PITTSBURGH, Nov 14, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) –
MAYA Design, a technology design and innovation lab based in Pittsburgh,
has announced changes in key roles that reflect its commitment to
human-centered design.
David Bishop has been named to the newly created position of MAYA Fellow
in Human Sciences. In his new position, Bishop will focus on strategic
aspects of human-centered design, expanding his role as mentor,
evangelist, speaker, author, and facilitator. As a MAYA Fellow, he will
guide research regarding new modes of user interaction and information
visualization, as well as design practice and high-ROI usability
methods. He will also continue to develop and refine MAYA’s Usability
Maturity Model, which has been effective in evaluating organizations’
design competencies and helping them to improve their processes to
develop better, more usable technology products.
Bishop began his career at MAYA 15 years ago and has served as director
of the company’s Human Sciences Group for the last 10 years.
Bishop holds a B.S. in applied mathematics and computer science from
Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and has taught graduate-level courses
at CMU’s Human Computer Interaction Institute (HCII).
Katie Minardo Scott, an expert in human-computer interaction who is a
senior designer and researcher, will assume the role of director of
MAYA’s Human Sciences Group, replacing David Bishop. Scott will lead the
group of interaction designers, ethnographers, and usability experts in
using human-centered design principles to improve the experiences that
people have with complex technology products and systems. She joined
MAYA in 2008 as a member of the Human Sciences Group.
Scott received a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction and a BFA
in design from Carnegie Mellon University. She recently returned to CMU
as an adjunct professor in the Human Computer Interaction Institute.
“David and Katie have been invaluable contributors to MAYA’s success.
Their new roles reflect our strong commitment to human-centered design
as a way for companies to become more competitive by meeting the real
needs of consumers,” said Mickey McManus, president and CEO of MAYA
Design.
