Clayton-based rental car company Enterprise Holdings said today
it is buying two European rental car companies for an undisclosed
amount – a move that would extend the companys reach to Spain and
France.

Enterprise Holdings is the parent company of rental car
companies Enterprise, National and Alamo. The acquisition would add
PSA Peugeots Citer SA and Atesa units to the companys
holdings.

Citer SA has about 30,000 vehicles in its fleet, with coverage
in France and Spain. Enterprise Holdings currently has more than
1.2 million cars and trucks worldwide.

Enterprise Holdings expects the deal to close by the end of
2011, subject to regulatory approval. Citer and Atesa have more
than 1,000 employees combined.

Enterprise CEO Andrew C. Taylor, said in a statement the company
has seen potential for growth in Europe for some time.

With no overlap or duplication to our current operations in
Europe, this will be a great strategic fit, said Enterprise
Holdings Chairman and CEO Andrew C. Taylor, in a statement.

Since entering Europe in 1994, the Enterprise Rent-A-Car
operations now include 4,000 employees in the United Kingdom,
Germany and Ireland. Today, the Enterprise network includes more
than 200 branch offices in Ireland and Germany and, as the largest
car rental business in the UK, according to a news release.

In 2007, Enterprise strengthened its North American operations
when it acquired the National and Alamo brands.
